"We, the people of Tora, swear loyalty to Adin, King of Deltora, and all of his blood who follow him. If ever this vow is broken, may this rock, our city's heart, break and may we be swept away, forever to regret our dishonour."

The Toran oath stone was a magical rock at the heart of the city of Tora. It represented the Torans' oath of loyalty to King Adin.[2]

History

Because their arrogance kept them from originally adding their gem to the Belt of Deltora, the people of Tora swore a vow of loyalty to King Adin. They engraved their words on an enchanted stone at their city's heart. If the vow was ever broken, the stone itself would break and the Torans would be swept from their city.

Secrets of Deltora

Doran the Dragonlover mentioned the oath stone when he visited Tora to write his book Secrets of Deltora.[2]

The Forests of Silence

Endon's note

The Torans refused Endon's plea for sanctuary.

When the Torans refused refuge to Jarred and Anna, who were under guise of King Endon and Queen Sharn, the stone cracked and the entire tribe was swept away from their city to live as ghostly subjects of The Guardian in the Valley of the Lost.

Lief, Barda, Jasmine, and Dain came to Tora to look for Dain's family. They found the city empty and the oath stone cracked.[1]

Cavern of The Fear

After Lief became king, he forgave the Torans in Adin's name and allowed them to return to their city. What happened to the stone afterwards is unknown.[3]

Apperance

The stone burned with green fire while the vow stood.

Powers

The oath stone was imbued with some of the most powerful Toran magic. It banished the entirety of the Toran people from their city for breaking their vow, and its spell could only be broken by the monarch's forgiveness.

Trivia

The Emerald, which dulls when a vow is broken, dulled in Tora.[1]
