Is it possible to divide the history between what is covered in Deltora Quest (1, 2, 3) and what is covered in the Rowan of Rin series?
Is it possible to divide the history between what is covered in Deltora Quest (1, 2, 3) and what is covered in the Rowan of Rin series?
Usually, the history section lists events pertaining to the page in chronological order. However, the placing and timing of Rowan of Rin's events are hard to place within the Deltora Quest series. Hence, it's difficult to sort some page's history's sections. While The Three Doors is set during the same time, and The Golden Door events during Queen Adina's reign, it still presents some difficulty. However, not as much as Rowan of Rin's events. We know that Perlain is in both, and this suggests that Rowan of Rin's events happened before Star of Deltora. I haven't completely finished Two Moons yet, but I'm curious as to which Keeper the book refers to. Does anyone have any additional information?
Until we know the exact placement, we either split the history with separate headings or guess at its placement. Headings might work well, but make it look cluttered. Thoughts?
The Keeper is Doss.
Quote: "'Do I gather that the Keeper feels the seeds of plague aboard the Star of Deltora?' Mab asked quietly. 'If so, he is mistaken.'"
The Keeper before him was female, so the quote can't be referring to the old Keeper. Two Moons has to be set at some point after Rowan and the Keeper of the Crystal.
Thanks for that Chericola! It seems Rodda has intentionally placed The Three Doors and Rowan of Rin around the same time of DQ3. Which makes sense.
Another option, which I've considered implementing is to divide topics into named sections, as per what they're referred to in the books. For example:
1. The Time of Adin
2. Invasion of the Shadow Lord
3. Quest to restore the Belt
4. Retoration of the monarchy
While this helps to divide information up, it may be hard to follow, if we were to also use headings for each book title. We could always remove the book title headings and rely on sources, it may be hard to follow. Both could work for sure. Just putting ideas out here. Here's an example of a combination:
1. The Time of Adin
2. Invasion of the Shadow Lord
3. Quest to restore the Belt
4. The Forests of Silence
5. The Lake of Tears
etc
The problem arises over pages which have book sections but also information from Adin's time, where a relevant book title heading is not suitable. I'll consider the options and post a suggestion tomorrow! It shouldn't change any of the established headings or layout options, but consistency and established guidelines will improve the state of pages significantly.
Is this just for the timeline page or for all pages?
Maybe we could have it more like this:
1. The Time of Adin
2. Invasion of the Shadow Lord
3. Quest to restore the Belt
***The Forests of Silence (or have another name, like 'retrieving the topaz' or 'retrieval of the topaz'?)
***The Lake of Tears
***City of the Rats
***The Shifting Sands
***Dread Mountain
***Maze of the Beast
***Valley of the Lost
***Return to Del
4. Restoration of the Monarchy
*** Quest for Pirran Pipe
*** Defeating the Four Sisters
*** The first Dragon Night/creation of the festival Dragon Night
*** Return of Rosalyn fleet
5. Later years of Lief's reign
The asteriksed names are sub-headings.
Just putting ideas out there... :) And I know it might be too detailed for what you're thinking of but I got a bit carried away I admit. :)
This is for the timeline sorry! It'd make more sense to use general headings rather than book headings, but it complicates it. I'd say we choose headings to use before any book, say, 'The Time of Adin', 'Pre-Adin' and 'Monarchy' or something of those lines to use before any book headings. Otherwise we have inconsistent headings. I am also personally fine with having no heading in some areas where it's unclear, or not enough information to warrant a separate heading. Though we must also consider the other series as well.
Your idea works well, though quite complex. The general headings could work. I like the simple nature of using book titles though, and am in favour of still using the existing book titles, just standardising the headings used before the books in the History section.
Yeah, the book headings would be simpler. I do like the idea of using general headings, not in place of book headings exactly but where book headings wouldn't really work. DQ2 is so short that I think it could be put down as a series underneath a more general header. Same with DQ3.
And I'm all for using general headings before book headers, like I think you're suggesting. I think that's what I was saying with my above idea...?
That could also work. Sort of Chericola! Though, only general headings before books, and not to separate. Still debating the use of the 'Quest to restore the Belt', with the books as subheadings and perhaps just having the book headings without the 'Quest to restore the Belt' to be simpler. I'll make an example page with our suggestions so we can take a look at them.
