so, i was wondering, what exactly is the Dragon of Maris? We only ever see one of it, yet it seems to have been around at least as long as the travelers have. Might it be in any way related to the dragons of Deltora?
It kinda looks like it might be a diamond dragon.
my theory is that it was a diamond dragon that got really lost and then was adopted by the island.
Any thoughts?
I am not really sure, seeing how Rodda wrote the first Rowan of Rin book before she wrote the first Deltora Quest series. I don't know if she was already thinking of the dragons in Deltora at that point. I think she might have, but I am not sure.
Now that I've thought about it, I doubt she had thought of the dragons in Deltora at this point. In fact, I doubt she was even thinking of Deltora. It did take her quite some time to develop the story for Deltora, but she didn't start work on it until probably late 90s. I think Rodda has said as much too.
EDIT: She was writing the first books of Deltora Quest while she was writing the last Rowan of Rin books though. Rowan of the Bukshah came out in the early 2000s, after the first Deltora Quest series.
