Contents[]

The book begins with notes written by both Emily Rodda and Marc McBride. Rodda praises McBride's skill in art, and says that there couldn't be a better teacher than him. McBride then goes on to talk about how he gets inspiration for his drawings. He says that he takes inspiration from Rodda's works as well as the drawings that are sent to him, and goes into further detail about his inspiration for drawing dragons. McBride says that he likes to draw in museums with dinosaur bones on display, as he is free to imagine what they could have looked like, and talks briefly about kinds of dragons in the different cultures around the world. Finally, he gives a reminder that Deltora dragons have an underbelly that changes to match the sky, and that their flames should be the same colour as the dragon.

The book features eighteen pictures, two of which contain a step-by-step of the colouring process, while the rest are uncoloured. The pictures include: an Opal dragon, a Diamond dragon, a Ruby dragon, an Emerald dragon, a Topaz dragon, The Fear, Arach, the Kobb, Adin and the Belt of Deltora, Tora, the Masked One, a Grey Guard, Adin fighting a Vraal, four different variations of an Adin drawing, and an Amethyst dragon. The pictures of Adin fighting a Vraal and the Amethyst dragon are in colour. Above the first twelve drawings is a short description.
